Julia Luz Betancourt is a multimedia journalist, editor and audience engagement expert who covers how communities organize against abuses of power. Her reporting has appeared in Prism, YES! Magazine, Truthout, GEN-ZiNE and more.

Julia has worked on audience teams for global and national media, helping newsrooms and media organizations more deeply engage audiences. She was formerly the associate editor at YES! Media, where she covered political power and grew the organization's newsletter base and social media following.

Julia believes journalism can bring about justice and works to amplify narratives that are underreported. She received a B.S. in Journalism and Critical Race and Ethnic Studies from St. John’s University. She is a member of BreakThrough News' national grassroots media network and has presented for the Solutions Journalism Network.
