We are currently accepting story pitches for our Peace & Riot magazine and guest suggestions for our award-winning podcast, A People’s Climate.
Please allow our team up to two weeks to respond to your email. If we do not respond within 14 business days, you can assume we are not going to pursue your idea at this time.
What We're Looking For
- Intersectional storytelling: Our coverage amplifies perspectives from Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color, low-income communities, and other historically marginalized groups. Our stories value the lived experiences of these communities and explore where climate, environmental, racial, and social justice intersect.
- Cultural resonance: Our stories explore the role culture plays in building a just climate future. We love highlighting how culture shapes communities' responses to environmental injustice and disaster and the solutions they are leading to solve the climate crisis.
- U.S. focus: Our stories are focused on climate and environmental justice in the United States. While your story idea can have an international connection, it should be rooted in a struggle or event taking place in the U.S.

Counterstream pays contributors for accepted pitches to our Peace & Riot magazine. Pay rates vary from issue to issue and are negotiated upon your story being accepted by our editorial team. If your pitch is accepted, we will reach out to you directly with next steps.
